St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg is the largest city in the area and occupies most of the southeastern half of the Pinellas Peninsula. This beautiful city easily becomes your home away from home as you will never be at a loss of what to do.  St Petersburg is home to more than 700 events every year, including the International Sail Expo, a fall boat show, a triathlon, powerboat races, and the Regata Del Sol al Sol, a 456-mile yacht race from St. Petersburg to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.  Do you love the water and marine life?  Fact: St. Petersburg is the southeast's largest oceanographic research center hosting 10 marine institutes.  As the city is surrounded by water, it is by default a sanctuary for all things marine related.  St. Petersburg also has a  thriving arts and culture flare. World-renowned museums abound, from the Salvador Dali Museum to the Museum of Fine Arts. If you are thinking performing arts, there’s the American Stage and Palladium Community Theater.  Whether you are just visiting and vacationing, or whether you have made St. Petersburg your home, you are sure to create many happy memories to cherish for years to come.

City Sites

Sunken Gardens
You will find this 100 year old tropical garden simply lush.  This botanical paradise in the right in the middle of the city and is home to some of the oldest botanical specimens in existence.  A true natural feast for the senses. 

The Pier
Visit the Pier for shopping, dining, and adventure. 
View the various sea creatures from all over the world displayed behind an aquarium looking glass.  If you like getting your hand dirty, the Education Station has a real hands-on teaching style.

other Parks

St. Petersburg has a wealth of parks at arms length.  Poke your head outside from your St Petersburg apartment and you’ll find 125 city parks spread over 2,500 acres. There is 7 miles of preserved waterfront exactly downtown.  Of parks on the must see list, visit the Sunken Garden, the Pinellas Trail - which offers 47 miles of hiking/biking trails, and Boyd Hill Nature Park Preserve.

Grand Prix of St. Petersburg
Grand Prix has recently reached a multi-year agreement with the City of St. Petersburg.  This entitles St. Petersburg to stage an annual auto racing event in and around the St. Petersburg waterfront.  High octane entertainment for the entire family.

Golf
St Petersburg also boasts three award-winning public golf courses.  They are the Mangrove Bay, Twin Brooks, and Cypress Links.  Click on the "St Petersburg Information" link at the bottom right corner for more information on these courses.

More Sports
Scattered throughout the city, here is a starter list of sporting activities: nine public pools - one of which is an olympic sized pool, 80 lit tennis courts, two skateboard parks and a BMX track, and three dog parks.  As there are
tri-athletes, major league baseball, football and hockey players, do not be surprised if you walk past someone famous.

Salvador Dali Museum
2004 is the Dali Centennial Year. To celebrate this, an American Collection exhibition is now open showcasing the museums phenomenal collection.  Opened in 1982, this museum houses more than a thousand of the artists works with various exhibits to display the phenomenon known as Salvador Dali.

Museum of Fine Arts
When you are in the mood for something a cut above, there is only one place to go; the Museum of Fine Arts.  The Museum was built to call to mind a feeling of permanence.  Boasting the only comprehensive art collection on the Florida west coast that
showcases art from antiquity through present day. 

American Stage Performing Arts
The mission of American Stage is to reveal and celebrate the hearts and minds of the people of our community, exploring the human condition in all its diversity through the art of live professional theatre.

Mahaffey Theater
The Mahaffey Theater features a diverse showcase.  Everything from Broadway to Jazz, family events, and dance, there is something for everyone.
